Alumni Admissions Ambassador Program (AAAP)

The Alumni Admissions Ambassador Program (AAAP) is a joint program between the Alumni Office and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Our goal is to engage well-trained, knowledgeable and enthusiastic alumni as active participants in the university’s recruitment efforts.

By participating in events like college fairs and on-campus visit programs, you can share your OU experience with prospective students and their families. Your enthusiasm for Oakland, and your personal success story, can make a difference for students exploring their college options.

If interested, please contact Anthony Gallina at for more information.

English Department Alumni Mentoring Program

The English Department is creating a new Alumni Mentoring program, pairing alumni from the English department with OU seniors in English on the basis of experience and interest. In the pilot program, launched this fall, some mentors meet face-to-face with their students, others communicate by e-mail or Skype. No long-term commitment necessary. At the end of each semester, the department hosts an alumni thank-you mixer event for alumni and students. Get involved!

If interested, please contact Annie Gilson at with your job market experience.

International Student Host Family Program

The Host Family Program is an opportunity for alumni to experience another culture first hand, as well as help an international student who doesn't know anyone or much about the culture have an easier transition into American Life. This program provides a broad and enriching experience for host families and international students. Hosts must commit to meet face to face with their student at least once a month and maintain contact a few times each month throughout the school year. Hosts are not expected to provide room and board, financial support, legal sponsorship, or daily contact.

To become a host or for more information, please contact Katelyn Lipp, host family program coordinator at (248) 370-3358 or

Speed Networking

Modeled after the speed dating concept, speed networking connects alumni professionals and current students for multiple, five-minute long one-on-one networking sessions. Co-sponsored by OU Career Services and the OUAA, this event gives students the opportunity to hear immediate feedback from alumni professionals on anything from fine-tuning “elevator speeches” to tips on professional dress to improving resumes. This annual event is held in February in the Oakland Center. Registration will begin in January on the OUAA events calendar.

Golf Outing

The OUAA Golf Challenge is an annual summer fundraising event that benefits the OUAA Scholarship Program. Alumni volunteers are needed as hole-spotters, so if you enjoy the outdoors and striking up conversations with new people, this is a great opportunity! The golf outing is typically held in mid-July and volunteer registration starts in the spring on the OUAA events calendar.
