OUAA Black Alumni Chapter
The purpose of the Black Alumni Chapter of the Oakland University Alumni Association is to bring alumni and friends back to Oakland University to acquaint them with the idea of involvement with and service to Oakland University.

The Black Alumni Chapter provides a communication network for black alumni and friends, acts as ambassadors between Oakland University and the black community, and provides programs through social, cultural and educational enrichment to encourage minority involvement.

Membership
Chapter membership is open to:
  • Oakland University Alumni Association members;
  • non-alumni who maintain active Friend of the Alumni Association membership in the Oakland University Alumni Association; and
  • honorary members as determined by the membership.

Chapter Activities
Chapter events range from winter gatherings to cheer on Oakland University’s Golden Grizzlies basketball teams to the annual “Just Friends” Christmas Celebration.

OUAA Black Alumni Chapter Mission
The mission of the Black Alumni Chapter of the Oakland University Alumni Association is to build and nurture lifetime relationships that connect alumni with Oakland University and engage alumni as ambassadors of the university. The Black Alumni Chapter serves as a vehicle for communication that fosters loyalty and fellowship and strengthens the relationships between and among Oakland University alumni, friends and the community. That mission and those goals are accomplished through innovative social, cultural, and educational volunteer programs and services that involve alumni as resources and are consistent with Oakland University’s missions and goals.

OUAA Black Alumni Chapter Vision
The vision of the Black Alumni Chapter of the Oakland University Alumni Association is to bring alumni and friends back to Oakland University and acquaint them with the idea of involvement with and service to Oakland University. The Black Alumni Chapter provides a communication network for African-American alumni and friends, acts as ambassadors between Oakland University and the African-American community, and provides programs through social, cultural and educational enrichment to encourage minority involvement.

OUAA Black Alumni Chapter Goals:

  • Promote the interests and welfare of Oakland University and its alumni.
  • Enhance the image of Oakland University and its alumni.
  • Foster communication with other alumni.
  • Encourage and initiate alumni activities that are conducted with the best interests of Oakland University in mind.
  • Provide an opportunity for alumni to come together in a community for social and intellectual enrichment.
  • Foster alumni involvement in Oakland University through fundraising, student recruitment, legislative advocacy, career and placement recruitment, and other activities.
  • Promote the recruitment of outstanding students, faculty and administrators to Oakland University.
  • Provide the Oakland University Alumni Relations Office with corrected alumni addresses and contact information and contribute to class notes and other articles and profiles of interest.
  • Provide a network to raise funds for Oakland University and the Oakland University Alumni Association.
  • Promote the Oakland University Alumni Association and assist the Oakland University Alumni Relations Office.
